Windrush Medical Practice: Accurx appointments, opening hours, prescriptions and patient help
Windrush Medical Practice is at Welch Way, Witney, Oxfordshire, OX28 6JS. The practice uses an online clinical-triage approach for GP appointment requests, currently delivered through Accurx. Medical requests are reviewed on the same day, while administrative online queries are normally reviewed within three working days.
Use the main number if you need help completing an online request, need a nurse appointment, want to request a home visit, have a registration or prescription query, require an accessibility adjustment, or are unsure which route to use.

Accurx and GP total-triage access
Windrush’s current Contact Us Online page says the practice uses Accurx. All medical online requests are reviewed on the same day, while administrative requests are reviewed within three working days.
The appointments page goes further: all urgent and routine GP appointment requests must go through the GP online system so assessing clinicians can decide who should help and how quickly.
Open Contact Us Online or the appointment page rather than using an old saved Engage Consult link.
Explain the main symptom or admin task, when it started, what has changed and how the practice can contact you.
The practice may respond by phone, text or another secure digital message.
You may be seen the same day, booked routinely, given clinical advice or directed to another appropriate service.
Online triage is not identical at every surgery. The York Medical Practice Total Triage guide shows another same-day clinical-review model, which is useful for understanding the concept but not for copying York’s rules to Windrush.
What may happen after clinical review?
Same-day appointment
If the clinician decides your problem needs same-day attention, an appropriate appointment may be arranged.
Routine appointment
The practice may decide the issue is safe to book for a later date.
Advice or another clinician
You may be directed to a nurse, pharmacist or another member of the primary-care team.
Another service
Some problems are better handled through self-referral, Pharmacy First, urgent care or another NHS service.
Appointments: useful Windrush-specific rules
Urgent GP request
Use the GP online system during practice opening hours. Windrush says urgent requests are clinically assessed so the team can decide whether you need same-day care or another appointment.
Routine GP request
Routine GP requests also go through the online system. This allows clinicians to check that a request described as routine does not actually need earlier attention.
Routine nurse appointment
If you need a routine nurse appointment, such as a repeat blood test, the appointments page tells patients to phone 01993 702911 rather than submitting it as a normal GP request.
Home visit
Home visits should not be requested through online services. Call before 10:00am. Windrush defines home visits for patients who are housebound or too ill to attend and says a GP assesses eligibility.
Cancellation
If you no longer need an appointment, cancel it by phone or through the GP online system so the slot can be reused.
Blood tests and midwife appointments
Blood-test online booking
The practice lists online blood-test booking on weekday mornings and Tuesday–Thursday afternoons.
Blood-test phone booking
Phone 01993 702911 between 11:00am–12:15pm or 2:30pm–6:00pm.
Pregnancy and midwife care
Tell Windrush online that you are pregnant so the team can send the information needed to book maternity care. Midwives run an invitation-only clinic at the practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The practice says to contact the surgery if you have not heard about your first booking appointment by 10 weeks.
Repeat prescriptions: online or written, not by phone
Windrush accepts repeat requests through its online prescription form, NHS account/NHS App, a written repeat slip or letter, and—where arranged—through a pharmacy. The practice says it does not accept routine repeat prescription requests by telephone.
| Prescription route | Current practice guidance |
|---|---|
| NHS App / NHS account | Select medicines already available on your repeat list and send the request electronically. |
| Windrush online form | Use the practice repeat-prescription request route. |
| Paper request | Drop a repeat slip or letter into the dispensary/practice letterbox and state which medicines you need and where they should be sent. |
| Telephone repeat order | Not accepted for routine repeat requests. |
| Prescription sent to another pharmacy | The current prescription page asks patients to allow 5–7 working days before expecting collection. |
For NHS App ordering, medication reviews, nominated pharmacies and urgent-medicine planning, see the Medication Practices patient guide.
Windrush dispensary: who can use it and when?
The practice has its own dispensary on the first floor, opposite reception in the waiting room. Windrush explains that the dispensing service is used by some patients who live more than one mile from their nearest pharmacy.
| Dispensary detail | Published information |
|---|---|
| Counter opening | Monday–Friday, 8:30am–1:00pm and 2:00pm–6:00pm. |
| Phone-line hours | Monday–Friday, 9:00am–12:00pm and 2:00pm–5:00pm. |
| Routine repeat requests by phone | Not accepted. |
| Medication questions | The dispensary team can answer medicine and prescription queries. |
| Unused medicines | The practice says its dispensary can accept unused old medication for safe disposal. |
Test results and GP record access
The Windrush website provides a dedicated “Get Test Results” route and supports online access to health-record information through NHS digital services. The practice does not publish one universal turnaround period for every type of investigation on the current pages reviewed.
Some results and record entries may become visible when they are available for patient access.
Use the practice website rather than guessing how long a particular blood test, scan or other investigation should take.
If a hospital or another service ordered the test, that team may be responsible for interpretation and follow-up.
Register with Windrush Medical Practice
The current Windrush registration page says the practice is welcoming new patients. Registration starts by checking whether your postcode is inside the practice boundary.
Use the official Windrush boundary checker before completing the registration process.
If you are unsure whether your address qualifies, contact the practice rather than assuming.
NHS guidance says you do not need ID, proof of address, immigration status or an NHS number simply to register with an NHS GP in England.
If you take repeat medication, make sure the new practice has enough information to avoid an unnecessary interruption while records transfer.
Services that use a different route
Not every health need should be sent through the standard GP appointment form.
Diabetes care
Windrush says patients are invited for annual long-term-condition review, usually around their birth month.
Contraception
The practice publishes local pharmacy routes for some contraception and asks patients to request an appointment for coils, injections, implants and other practice-based care.
Emergency contraception
The practice says this is available promptly through local pharmacies. If contacting Windrush, make the urgency clear so a healthcare professional can respond appropriately.
Ear wax
Windrush says ear syringing/wax removal is offered only as part of a referral for a hearing test rather than as a general walk-in service.
Sexual health clinic
A separate Oxfordshire sexual-health clinic operates at Windrush Medical Practice by arrangement. It is an independent service, so use Sexual Health Oxfordshire rather than the GP reception for clinic-specific queries.
Podiatry and endoscopy
These are among other health-centre services located on the ground floor and operate independently from Windrush Medical Practice, which is on Level 1.
If you are comparing digital GP systems, the Three Chequers Medical Practice guide demonstrates a different SystmConnect-based model; Windrush patients should still follow Windrush’s own Accurx instructions.
Parking, accessibility and arriving at the health centre
Parking
Windrush says on-site parking is limited and is kept free for elderly or disabled patients. A public car park is available in Woodford Way, about 200 metres from the surgery.
Cycle parking
The current contact page lists cycle parking at the site.
Mobility access
Disabled parking, a disabled toilet, wheelchair access and step-free access are listed.
Communication access
The practice lists Braille translation, an induction loop and text relay among its accessibility facilities.
Families
Baby-changing and parent-and-baby facilities are listed at the practice.
Before travelling
If an access feature is essential for your visit, call reception beforehand so the team can confirm the practical arrangement.
