Accurx Total Triage: how appointment requests work
Albrighton Medical Practice no longer relies on a first-come, first-served morning scramble for GP appointments. All requests for a doctor appointment are reviewed through its Total Triage model so the practice can decide urgency, clinician and type of response.
The online request system is switched off outside those times and on bank holidays.
The practice says medical requests are reviewed by a GP. Include the main issue and information requested by the form so the GP can decide the appropriate route.
Call 01902 372301 or visit reception. The practice says staff will help complete the request on your behalf.
Possible responses include telephone consultation, face-to-face appointment, video call, secure text advice or signposting to another service.
Routine and admin requests have different timescales
The specific Total Triage page says urgent medical requests receive a same-day response and routine medical requests within two working days. The appointments page says administrative requests are directed to the relevant team and answered within five working days.
The next appointment may not be with a GP
Total Triage is also used to decide which member of the wider practice team is most appropriate.
Nurse or nursing associate
Suitable clinical requests can be routed to the nursing team instead of waiting for a GP.
Physiotherapy
The practice lists physiotherapy among the services that may be offered through its care-routing process.
Clinical pharmacist
Medicine-related work can be routed to the practice or PCN pharmacy team where appropriate.
Social prescribing or care coordination
The current appointment information lists social prescribing and community-care coordination among available routes.
Two different types of extended access
Albrighton publishes both its own booked extended hours and a wider network service. These should not be confused with walk-in or emergency access.
| Service | Published access | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Albrighton practice extended hours | Monday 6:30pm–8:30pm | Booked appointments only. No emergency provision during this session. |
| Albrighton selected Saturday | Every fourth Saturday, 8:30am–12:30pm | Pre-booked appointments only. |
| Network extended access | Weekdays 6:30pm–8:00pm; Saturdays 9:00am–5:00pm | May be provided from another participating GP practice depending on availability. |
For another nearby Shropshire GP system with different appointment and extended-access arrangements, see the Shifnal Medical Practice patient guide.
Home visits: request before 10:30am
If you are genuinely housebound or too ill to attend the surgery, contact Albrighton Medical Practice before 10:30am. The official page says visits are normally dealt with around lunchtime.
Registered address only
The practice states that its home-visiting service is limited to the address where you are registered and cannot be provided outside its practice area.
Urgent Community Response
Depending on the problem, the practice may arrange for the Urgent Community Response team rather than a surgery GP to attend.
Repeat prescriptions: use NHS App or a repeat slip
Albrighton is unusually explicit about routes it does not accept for routine repeat prescription ordering.
| Ordering route | Current practice position |
|---|---|
| NHS App | Recommended. Select the authorised repeat medicines you need. |
| White repeat slip | Request the slip from your chemist, tick the medicines required and return it to the practice. |
| Telephone | Not accepted for ordinary repeat requests. |
| Total Triage | Not accepted as the repeat-prescription ordering route. |
| Not accepted for routine repeat prescription requests. |
When will the pharmacy have it?
The practice currently says a repeat prescription can usually be collected from the nominated pharmacy three to five working days after ordering. This includes the GP authorisation and pharmacy preparation route, so order before you are close to running out.
Electronic prescriptions
For non-dispensing patients, prescriptions are normally transmitted electronically to the nominated pharmacy. The practice says there should usually be no need to attend the surgery simply to collect the paper prescription.
For wider help with NHS repeat medicines and nominated pharmacies, see our medication and prescription guide.
Albrighton is also a dispensing practice
The practice has its own dispensary, but it cannot legally dispense medicines to every registered patient.
Eligibility depends on distance from a pharmacy
Albrighton says it can dispense medication to eligible patients who live more than three miles by road from the chemists in Albrighton or Shifnal. Ask the practice to confirm whether you qualify rather than assuming rural registration automatically makes you a dispensing patient.
Dispensing patients can request repeat medicines through the NHS App and can contact the dispensary on the main surgery number, 01902 372301.
Test results: check online first, then request discussion if needed
Once a doctor has reviewed your result, Albrighton says it can be viewed in your NHS account/NHS App or Patient Access account.
If the result shows that more tests or treatment are required, the practice says it will contact you.
Reviewed results can be available digitally depending on your access settings.
Use the online request form linked from the practice homepage rather than relying on reception to interpret clinical results.
Register with Albrighton Medical Practice
The practice serves a semi-rural area rather than only Albrighton village. Its current registration page includes a postcode boundary checker.
Use the postcode checker on the official registration page before completing forms.
The current Albrighton page says patients wishing to register should attend and complete the appropriate form.
The Albrighton page currently asks patients to present valid proof of address. Current national NHS guidance, however, says patients do not need ID, proof of address, proof of immigration status or an NHS number simply to register with a GP.
An NHS number can help match records but is not nationally required for GP registration.
If you are considering another nearby surgery, the Wellington Medical Practice Telford guide explains a separate practice’s appointment and registration routes.
Practice area: more than Albrighton village
The official registration page says the practice covers a semi-rural population across several villages and surrounding countryside.
Services that may use a dedicated clinician
The current staff and service information shows why Total Triage does not automatically send every request to a GP.
Minor surgery
The practice currently provides selected minor surgery for appropriate lesions after an initial GP assessment and waiting-list decision.
Joint injections
Current doctor information lists joint-injection provision at the surgery for suitable patients.
Phlebotomy
Healthcare assistants provide blood tests by appointment on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am to 12 noon.
Clinical pharmacy
The practice works with PCN clinical pharmacists for appropriate medication-related care.
Mental-health support
A PCN mental-health practitioner is listed among attached staff.
Social prescribing
PCN and council social-prescribing roles are listed within the wider practice team.
Accessibility and reasonable adjustments
The contact page confirms disabled access through the front entrance and asks patients to tell reception about special requirements.
Physical access
Disabled access is provided via the front entrance. If wheelchair access or another physical adjustment is essential, tell the practice before the appointment.
Reasonable Adjustment Flag
The practice can record a Reasonable Adjustment Flag on the NHS record, with patient consent, so relevant accessibility needs can be visible to authorised health and care staff.
Complaints: published response times
Albrighton asks patients to raise concerns with the practice where possible, either verbally or in writing to the Practice Manager.
| Complaint step | Practice guidance |
|---|---|
| When to complain | Normally within 12 months of the incident or becoming aware of the problem. |
| Acknowledgement | The practice says it will acknowledge the complaint within three working days. |
| Investigation target | It aims to investigate within 14 working days of the complaint being raised. |
| Complaining for another adult | Patient consent is normally required because of medical confidentiality. |
CQC: current overall rating Good
