Three Spires Medical Practice Truro: urgent calls, routine AccuRx and patient help
Three Spires Medical Practice is at Truro Health Park, Infirmary Hill, Truro, Cornwall, TR1 2JA. Its current appointment system deliberately separates urgent same-day problems from routine GP requests: urgent problems are phoned through reception, while routine GP requests use AccuRx or the NHS App during a shorter morning submission window.
Use this number for urgent same-day medical concerns, help if you cannot submit a routine request online, home-visit requests, test-result help, access or interpreter support, and reception guidance.

Urgent today or routine? This is the key distinction
Urgent same-day medical problem
Phone reception on 01872 272272.
The practice changed urgent access from 1 October 2025. Reception asks a short set of triage questions and passes the information to the duty team, which decides the appropriate next step.
Possible outcomes can include a same-day GP or paramedic appointment, a routine appointment, telephone/text advice or signposting to another service.
Do not send an urgent same-day problem through the routine AccuRx form.
Routine or ongoing GP problem
Submit an online triage request through AccuRx or the NHS App between 8:00am and 11:30am on working days.
The current appointment page says routine GP requests received in this window are triaged that same day.
If you cannot submit the request online, call reception during that time and staff can complete the form with you.

How the current appointment system works
If the problem cannot safely wait for a routine appointment, phone reception rather than completing the routine online request.
Use AccuRx or the NHS App on a working day. The practice says routine appointment requests received during this window are triaged that day.
Reception can complete the routine request form with you during the same submission period.
The appointment page asks patients to mention a preferred clinician where relevant, whether they prefer telephone or face-to-face care, and any interpreter, access or communication need.
What reception does with an urgent call
Reception asks a small amount of information about the medical problem. The practice explains that this helps its clinical duty team assess urgency and choose the most suitable GP, nurse, paramedic or other professional.
Cancelling or changing an appointment
The practice lists several cancellation routes: NHS account/NHS App, SystmOnline, telephone, or replying CANCEL to the appointment reminder text. Patients arriving late may be asked to rebook.
NHS App, SystmOnline and Merryn
Three Spires currently offers more than one digital route. They are not interchangeable, so use each for the task it actually supports.
NHS App
The practice promotes the NHS App for appointment requests, repeat prescriptions, health-record access and other NHS account services.
SystmOnline
Registered users can order repeat medicines, manage supported appointments and view coded record information. The practice says new SystmOnline access can take up to 14 days after the application and ID checks.
Merryn digital assistant
Merryn is an optional 24-hour digital assistant on the practice website and phone system. It can help patients find self-service routes, repeat-prescription information, Pharmacy First and routine-booking guidance.
Extended access: early morning, evening and Saturday
Three Spires currently publishes additional routine appointment availability outside its normal 8:00am–6:30pm core hours.
Weekdays
The practice lists extended access between 7:00am and 7:00pm.
Saturday
The appointments page lists Saturday extended access between 8:00am and 4:00pm.
These appointments must be pre-booked at least 24 hours in advance, are for routine health matters and are described by the practice as appointments with your own GP.
Do not treat extended access as an urgent walk-in service.
Home visits: phone before 10:30am where possible
The practice reserves home visits for patients who are genuinely housebound or whose condition makes attendance at the surgery inappropriate.
Call 01872 272272 before 10:30am where possible. The practice says it will telephone first to understand what you need before arranging the appropriate response.
Repeat prescriptions: no phone or email ordering
The official prescription page is clear: routine repeat-prescription requests are not accepted by telephone or email.
| Ordering route | How it works | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| NHS App / NHS account | Choose medicines from the repeat list and send the request securely. | Give at least 3 full working days’ notice. |
| SystmOnline | Registered online-services users can select repeat medicine and dosage. | Allow practice processing plus pharmacy time. |
| Online prescription form | Available for registered patients who cannot use the account-based routes. | Do not leave it until the last dose. |
| Paper repeat form | Bring the paper request to the surgery during opening hours. | Allow extra time around weekends and bank holidays. |
You need a nominated pharmacy for electronic collection. The nomination can be changed in the relevant app/website, through the GP practice or at a pharmacy that accepts electronic prescriptions.
The Medication Practices guide explains repeat medicines and pharmacy planning in more detail, but Three Spires’ own 3-day and 5–7-day timings are the rules to follow here.
Test results: usually 3–7 working days
The practice says most results arrive electronically from the hospital and normally take 3 to 7 working days. It asks patients to confirm their result rather than assuming that silence means everything is normal.
Most routine results are expected within 3–7 working days, although individual tests can take longer.
After doctor review, results can be available through the NHS account/NHS App or SystmOnline.
The practice says it will respond to an online test-result request within five working days.
Reception can tell you the recorded result but is not qualified to clinically interpret it.
Bringing in a specimen
Use a proper specimen container from reception. Label it clearly with name, date of birth, date provided and the reason for the specimen. An incorrectly labelled or unsuitable sample may need to be repeated.
Sick and fit notes
Three Spires publishes an online request form for patients who have been off sick for more than seven days. Patients can also phone or visit the surgery during opening hours.
Seven days or less
You generally use self-certification rather than an urgent GP appointment.
More than seven days
Your employer will normally ask for a fit note or Statement of Fitness for Work.
Register with Three Spires Medical Practice
Three Spires says it accepts new patients who are ordinarily resident in the UK and live within its practice boundary. NHS currently also lists the surgery as accepting new patients.
Use the interactive postcode/catchment tool on the registration page before submitting a registration.
The practice uses the NHS “Register with a GP surgery” service and also provides paper forms.
The practice’s NHS online-registration route states that you do not need proof of address, immigration status, ID or an NHS number simply to register online.
Three Spires says it stopped accepting out-of-area registrations from 1 February 2022. Patients who move outside the boundary are asked to register nearer home.
If you are visiting Truro temporarily
The practice now asks visitors to contact their own registered GP first, because that practice has access to the full record. Three Spires asks temporary visitors to contact it for face-to-face care only where their own GP has advised that local assessment is needed. Use NHS 111 when urgent care is required outside your own GP’s opening hours.
Three Spires and Lander Medical Practice both operate from Truro Health Park, but they are separate GP practices with different telephone numbers, registration lists and patient procedures.

Complaints and patient feedback
Three Spires publishes both an informal local-resolution route and a formal complaints process.
Raise a concern early
You can initially speak to a member of staff. The practice says many concerns are best resolved locally and formal complaints are normally handled through the Practice Manager.
Formal complaint timing
The practice says a complaint should normally be made within 12 months of the incident, or within 12 months of becoming aware of the issue, although exceptions can apply.
For a formal complaint, the practice says it will acknowledge the complaint within three working days. Its published procedure aims to deal with formal matters promptly, generally within 20 working days depending on complexity.
Patient Participation Group
The practice also operates a Patient Participation Group. It says the group meets roughly every three months and also gathers feedback from patients who prefer to participate remotely.
