Taw Hill Medical Practice: current Westrop surgery, appointments, hours and prescriptions
The GP surgery commonly searched as Taw Hill Medical Practice is now operated as Taw Hill Surgery, part of Westrop Medical Practice, at Aiken Road, Swindon, SN25 1UH. Patients can contact the practice online 24/7 for prescriptions, sick notes and other queries, use SystmOnline for repeat medicines and selected appointment tasks, or call the Taw Hill team directly.
The old standalone Taw Hill Medical Practice is no longer the current provider identity
Older CQC and search results still show standalone entities called “Taw Hill Medical Practice”. Those registrations were archived after provider changes. Current official Westrop, BSW ICB and CQC records show the Aiken Road site operating within the wider Westrop/Brunel primary-care structure.
Telephone lines are published as open 8:00am–6:30pm Monday to Friday. The practice asks patients to leave routine enquiries and non-urgent appointment requests until after 11:30am where possible.

How to request an appointment
Westrop Medical Practice currently provides several appointment routes rather than relying on one morning telephone queue.
Use 999 for life-threatening symptoms. If the problem is urgent and the practice is closed, use NHS 111.
SystmOnline is listed for routine appointments, and the practice also provides an Accurx online patient-contact portal.
Say what the problem is, whether it is new or ongoing and whether you need a particular doctor, nurse or other professional.
Westrop asks patients to say if they prefer phone, face-to-face, video, text or email where clinically appropriate, and whether they need an interpreter, chaperone or another adjustment.
Online contact: available 24/7 for non-emergency requests
The current Taw Hill branch page says online requests for prescriptions, sick notes and other queries can be submitted Monday to Sunday, 24 hours a day.
The current Westrop contact hub uses an Accurx online patient-contact route. Repeat prescriptions can also be ordered directly through SystmOnline rather than sending a general message.
Saturday Enhanced Access at Taw Hill
Taw Hill is one of the Swindon sites used for pre-booked Saturday primary-care clinics. The current Westrop appointments page lists routine clinics at Taw Hill and Carfax Medical Centre from 9:00am to 1:00pm every Saturday.
GP and ANP appointments
Routine GP and Advanced Nurse Practitioner appointments are among the services listed.
Long-term condition reviews
Saturday clinics can include asthma, diabetes and COPD reviews.
Nursing procedures
Cervical screening, ECGs, ear syringing, wound care and eligible immunisations are listed.
Mental-health and lifestyle care
Mental-health appointments, dietetic and lifestyle support are also included in the published service.
Booking is essential. Contact your registered GP surgery first. Westrop says people arriving without an appointment should be referred back to their GP practice or another out-of-hours service.
Home visits: request before 10:30am for urgent same-day need
Westrop’s current home-visit policy reserves visits mainly for patients who are genuinely housebound, bedbound, terminally ill or too unwell to leave home without avoidable medical harm.
The current policy asks patients to contact the surgery before 10:30am for urgent same-day home-visit requests.
Details are passed to a clinical assessor.
A clinician decides whether a home visit is appropriate and the medically suitable timeframe.
Repeat prescriptions: NHS App or SystmOnline, not telephone
| Ordering method | Current Westrop guidance |
|---|---|
| NHS App / NHS account | Recommended for repeat medicines already authorised on your record. |
| SystmOnline | Current Westrop online ordering route. |
| Paper form | Bring the repeat request to the surgery when open. |
| Post | Repeat slips can be posted; provide a stamped addressed envelope if you need the practice to post the prescription back. |
| Telephone | Repeat prescription requests are not accepted by phone. |
If the issue is about the medicine itself rather than ordering, a community pharmacist can answer many medicine questions. Westrop also employs clinical pharmacists for medication reviews and prescribing work.
For broader help with NHS App ordering and nominated pharmacies, see the Medication Practices patient guide.
Test results: call after 11am
Westrop specifically asks patients to avoid calling first thing in the morning for routine results because telephone demand is highest then.
Different blood tests, scans and investigations have different turnaround times.
Some results can appear in the NHS App or your online GP record after clinical review.
Have your identity details ready.
Register with Taw Hill Surgery
Westrop currently provides a dedicated NHS online-registration link for Taw Hill Surgery.
The registration page links to a catchment checker before asking new patients to choose a branch.
The practice’s current registration page links Taw Hill patients to the NHS online-registration service for branch code J83002004.
Use the official NHS form rather than sending health information through an unofficial directory.
Westrop also provides a printable PRF1 registration route.

Complaints and feedback

Include dates, the Taw Hill site, appointment or service involved, staff role if known and what outcome you want.
Use the current contact details rather than posting confidential medical information on a public review website.
A complaint process should not delay urgent treatment.
CQC history: do not use the old Taw Hill rating as the current practice rating
The Taw Hill CQC history is unusually easy to misread because the provider changed several times.
| Record | Status | What it means now |
|---|---|---|
| Old standalone Taw Hill Medical Practice | Archived in March 2019; rating was Requires Improvement | This old rating belongs to a previous provider and should not be presented as the current Taw Hill Surgery rating. |
| Westrop Medical Practice inspection | Good overall; inspected 30 January 2020, report published 30 March 2020 | CQC visited Taw Hill as part of the Westrop inspection after Taw Hill merged into Westrop in October 2019. |
| Integration of Taw Hill into Westrop | Specifically praised in 2020 CQC findings | CQC cited improved leadership, governance, responsiveness and engagement following the merger. |
| Separate CQC location named “Taw Hill” | Registered December 2022 under Brunel Health Group Ltd; not yet inspected | Do not confuse this separate current CQC location with the old standalone Taw Hill Medical Practice rating. |
