Quick answer: Airlie’s own website currently lists Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday as 8:30am–5:30pm and Wednesday as 7:00am–5:30pm. NHS 24 displays broader normal weekday hours of 8:00am–6:00pm. For an actual visit, use the practice website or phone 01333 426083 to confirm the current reception arrangement. Online appointment requests are stated to be dealt with within one working day.

Start with the task you need to complete

You need Best first step Important local detail
Life-threatening emergency Call 999. Do not wait for the surgery, walk-in service or NHS 24.
Urgent same-day GP help Call 01333 426083, preferably before 10:30am. Urgent calls are screened on first contact so the safest clinician can be chosen.
A routine appointment Request online, by phone or at reception. The online appointment page says requests are dealt with within one working day.
Urgent care but cannot attend your usual GP If eligible, use the Randolph Wemyss GP-led walk-in service. Methil patients are included in the initial Fife pilot; weekday hours are 10am–6pm with no appointment needed.
Repeat medicine Use Patient Access, written request, prescription voicemail route or another published ordering method. Allow at least 48 hours; a Friday request is normally ready the following Tuesday.
A test result Call the surgery after the expected result date. The practice suggests avoiding 8:30am–10:00am because reception is busiest then.
A home visit Call before 10:30am where possible. Home visits are for patients housebound because of illness or disability.
Urgent help when closed Call NHS 24 on 111. NHS 24 can assess the problem and direct you to the appropriate Fife urgent-care route.

Airlie Medical Practice opening hours: why two official sources differ

Airlie’s own website and NHS 24 currently publish slightly different weekday times. The practice website gives the more detailed surgery timetable, while NHS 24 provides a broader service-directory listing.

Day Practice website NHS 24 listing
Monday8:30am–5:30pm8:00am–6:00pm
Tuesday8:30am–5:30pm8:00am–6:00pm

Friday8:30am–5:30pm8:00am–6:00pm

SundayClosedNot listed as normal opening
For an in-person visit, follow the live practice timetable. The practice website is the more specific source for reception and appointment access. Phone 01333 426083 if the timing matters, especially around public holidays or staff-training closures.

Early-morning appointments

The appointments page also says Airlie operates early-morning surgeries on two mornings each week, typically between 7:30am and 8:30am, aimed at patients who cannot attend during the working day. Because the homepage now specifically shows a 7:00am Wednesday opening, ask reception which early slots are currently running.

How to request an appointment

Appointments can be requested in person, by telephone or through the practice’s online appointment form. The online form asks for the information a clinician needs to understand urgency and what you are hoping the practice can help with.

1
Say what the main problem is.
The online form asks you to describe the symptoms and say whether the problem is new or ongoing.
2
Explain how long it has been happening.
Give a realistic timeframe—hours, days, weeks or longer—and mention if it is getting worse.
3
Tell the practice what you have already tried.
The form asks about pharmacy advice, over-the-counter treatment and other measures already used.
4
Mention new medicines or supplements.
Airlie specifically asks whether you have recently started anything the practice may not yet know about.
5
Keep your phone available.
The practice states that online appointment requests are dealt with within one working day.
You may be offered a Nurse Practitioner rather than a GP. Airlie explains that its Nurse Practitioners are experienced clinicians who can prescribe and may be able to deal with the problem more quickly where appropriate.
Want a particular GP? The practice says patients can request a GP of their choice when asking for an appointment, although availability may affect how quickly that clinician can see you.

New local option: Randolph Wemyss urgent-care walk-in service

Airlie patients have a particularly useful local option that does not apply to every GP practice in Scotland. NHS Fife opened a GP-led Walk-In Service at Randolph Wemyss Memorial Hospital in Buckhaven on 24 August 2026.

Who can use it?

The initial pilot includes people aged 3 and over who are registered with a GP in Leven, Methil, Buckhaven or Kennoway.

When is it open?

Monday to Friday, 10:00am–6:00pm. No appointment is needed.

What is it for?

An urgent, non-emergency health concern that needs same-day assessment when you cannot attend your usual GP practice.

Who might you see?

NHS Fife says patients may be assessed by a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner depending on clinical need.

This is not an A&E replacement. Call 999 for life-threatening emergencies. At weekends and public holidays, NHS Fife says patients should continue to use NHS 24 on 111 for urgent non-emergency problems.

Walk-In Service address: Randolph Wemyss Memorial Hospital, Wellesley Road, Buckhaven, Leven, KY8 1HU.

Repeat prescriptions: Patient Access, written routes and 48-hour processing

Airlie uses Patient Access for online repeat-medication requests and also publishes offline ordering options.

Ordering route How Airlie says it works
Patient Access Use the practice’s online service to request repeat medication. Ask the practice team for account setup help if needed.
In person Submit your repeat prescription request at the practice.
Post Repeat requests can be sent by post.
Prescription voicemail The practice says it no longer takes ordinary requests during a standard telephone conversation but has a dedicated prescription-line voicemail route.
Serial prescription Eligible long-term medicines can sometimes be issued for up to 48 weeks and held by your pharmacist, reducing repeated GP ordering.
Allow at least 48 hours. Airlie says a prescription handed in on Friday can be collected the following Tuesday. Weekends and public holidays therefore need to be included in your planning.

Test results: call after the expected return date

Airlie says you can telephone the surgery to ask about results at any time during its working day, but recommends avoiding 8:30am–10:00am because reception is particularly busy then.

1
Ask when the result should be back when the test is arranged.
Different investigations have different processing times.
2
Contact the practice after that expected date.
If possible, avoid the morning telephone rush.
3
Expect an identity check.
The practice releases results only to the patient concerned unless appropriate prior permission exists or the patient cannot understand the result.
4
Book follow-up if advised.
Airlie explicitly tells patients that they are responsible for checking their result and arranging a doctor appointment if the practice advises discussion.

Sick notes: do not book an emergency appointment just for a fit note

7 days or less

The practice directs patients towards self-certification rather than a GP fit note for a short absence.

More than 7 days

Use the Airlie sick-note request route. A Med3 fit note can be backdated where appropriate but cannot be future-dated.

If the absence followed a hospital admission: the hospital can cover the period of admission. After discharge, the GP can issue a further fit note using the hospital discharge information where appropriate.

Airlie says an urgent fit-note request may take up to 72 hours. Private letters or certificates outside normal NHS work may attract a charge, so ask reception before requesting one.

Home visits: request before 10:30am where possible

Airlie asks patients who need a home visit to telephone reception before 10:30am where possible.

Home visits are for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability. A doctor or nurse may telephone first because the problem may be manageable with advice, a nurse visit or hospital assessment instead.

The practice also points out that more patients can be assessed at the surgery in the time needed for one home visit, and examination and treatment facilities are better at the health centre.

Registering with Airlie Medical Practice

Airlie’s registration page says it accepts patients who live within the practice boundary, but it also contains older wording about limits on the number of registrations accepted each week. For that reason, confirm current capacity before relying on the page alone.

1
Check that your address is in the Airlie practice area.
NHS Scotland practice searches are only a guide; living nearby does not automatically mean your address is covered.
2
Complete the NHS Scotland GP registration form.
The Airlie page currently asks patients to complete the form and email it to the practice.
3
Use the published registration email where instructed.
The current Airlie registration page lists fife.f21524Airlie@nhs.scot.
4
Complete the new-patient health questionnaire.
Airlie explains that transferred records may take time to arrive, so the questionnaire helps the practice record important medical information in the meantime.
ID and proof of address: Airlie’s own page asks for identity/address evidence, but current NHS inform guidance says these documents are recommended to help match NHS records and that registration should not be delayed or refused solely because a patient cannot provide identification or proof of address.
Staying in the area for 3 months or less? NHS inform says temporary-resident treatment may be more appropriate than permanent registration.

Clinics and the wider Airlie care team

Not every problem needs a GP. Airlie’s own service and staffing pages show a multidisciplinary model involving Nurse Practitioners, practice nursing, pharmacy and community teams.

Asthma

Asthma-clinic appointments can be arranged through reception.

Diabetes and CHD

These clinics are nurse-led and patients are normally invited rather than booking directly with reception.

Prescription team

The practice lists a practice pharmacist, senior clinical pharmacy technician and prescription administrators.

Community midwifery

The practice works with community midwives, with local antenatal provision linked to Randolph Wemyss Hospital.

District nursing

Airlie is supported by the district nursing team based at Randolph Wemyss Memorial Hospital.

Minor illness

Airlie’s “Who do I see?” guide directs many common problems to community pharmacy rather than a GP appointment.

Travel vaccines are no longer provided by the practice

Airlie’s clinic page states that the practice no longer provides travel advice or travel immunisation appointments.

Current Scotland route: Airlie directs patients to participating community pharmacies for travel-vaccination appointments. It also points patients to TravelHealthPro for destination-specific vaccine, malaria and travel-health information.

The practice notes that four travel vaccines—typhoid, hepatitis A, DPT and cholera—can be available through the NHS where clinically indicated, but the vaccination service itself is not delivered by Airlie Medical Practice.

Pharmacy First Scotland may be quicker for minor illness

Airlie published an updated Pharmacy First Scotland notice in June 2026. The service is available through community pharmacies and usually does not require an appointment.

Use pharmacy first for suitable minor illness. A pharmacist can assess common conditions, give clinical advice and provide NHS treatment or medicine where appropriate. This can avoid waiting for a GP appointment when GP assessment is not necessary.

Accessibility and communication support

Hearing support

The practice says reception and consulting rooms have audio induction loops.

BSL interpreter

A British Sign Language interpreter can be arranged if you contact the practice before the appointment.

Airlie also says website information can be requested in formats such as large print, easy read, audio recording, Braille or PDF by contacting the practice on 01333 426083.

Complaints and feedback

NHS Fife’s current primary-care feedback guidance says complaints about GP practices should normally be raised with the practice manager because GP practices manage their own feedback and complaints.

1
Contact Airlie Medical Practice.
Use 01333 426083 and ask how to submit a complaint to the practice manager.
2
Give practical details.
Include the date, what happened, which service was involved and what outcome you are asking for.
3
Keep urgent clinical needs separate.
Do not wait for a complaints response if you still need treatment; use the correct clinical route at the same time.
4
After the NHS complaints process is complete, SPSO is the final external stage for most Scottish public-service complaints.

Current site development: allow extra time for parking and traffic

NHS Fife announced building work at Airlie Medical Practice to create five new consulting rooms, one Community Treatment and Care room and two additional admin rooms. The project was expected to run into autumn 2026.

No service move was announced. NHS Fife said patient services were expected to continue during the works. Four parking spaces were expected to be unavailable, and construction traffic could make the site busier.

NHS Fife identified alternative parking on the main road and at East Fife Football Club if required. Because the project is time-sensitive, check the live practice site before assuming construction is still active or has finished.

Scotland regulator note

Airlie Medical Practice is an NHS Scotland GP practice, so it does not have an English CQC GP rating. Current patient information should be checked through Airlie Medical Practice, NHS Fife, NHS 24 and NHS inform rather than attaching a CQC score from an unrelated English provider.
