Planned November 2026 merger: Links Medical
Marine Lake Medical Practice announced on 28 August 2026 that it plans to merge with West Wirral Group Practice in November 2026. The planned combined organisation will be called Links Medical.
What changes?
The practices will operate as one organisation. Marine Lake says the aim is to strengthen staffing, clinical expertise and service resilience.
What stays local?
The practice announcement says both practice sites will remain open, so patients should continue to have local access rather than both services moving into one building.
Opening hours, phone lines and Blinx times
The practice publishes three different time windows: building opening, telephone-line hours and Blinx availability. They should not be treated as interchangeable.
| Day | Published practice opening | Phone | Blinx |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 8:00am–8:00pm | 8:00am–6:30pm | 7:30am–6:30pm |
| Tuesday | 8:00am–8:00pm | 8:00am–6:30pm | 7:30am–6:30pm |
| Wednesday | 8:00am–8:00pm | 8:00am–6:30pm | 7:30am–6:30pm |

Blinx appointments: routine and on-the-day requests
Marine Lake now routes both routine and on-the-day appointment requests through Blinx. The aim is to assess clinical need before choosing the professional and appointment format.
Avoid unofficial booking links. Use the Marine Lake website so you know the form is the one currently used by the practice.
Answer the questions about the concern and include an up-to-date phone number or other contact route.
The practice decides which clinician and consultation type is most appropriate.
Marine Lake says the response may be by text, telephone, email, video or face-to-face consultation, and it will contact you by the end of the next working day at the latest.
What can happen after Blinx triage?
Telephone response
A clinician may be able to assess or resolve the problem by phone.
Face-to-face appointment
The practice can arrange an in-person appointment when examination or treatment is appropriate.
Video, text or email
Some problems can be managed using secure digital communication rather than requiring travel.
Different professional
The request may be routed to a nurse, ANP, pharmacist or another appropriate member of the healthcare team.
Home visits: telephone before 11:00am where possible
Housebound visits are for patients who genuinely cannot leave home to attend the surgery. Marine Lake asks patients to telephone before 11:00am where possible when a same-day housebound visit is needed.
Clinical triage still applies
A request for a home visit does not automatically result in a visit. The practice assesses whether it is clinically appropriate.
A remote consultation may be safer or faster
The practice explains that a doctor may telephone or use video instead of visiting when that is medically appropriate.
Repeat prescriptions: three working days and no telephone orders
Marine Lake publishes several repeat-prescription routes. The quickest listed methods are the NHS App and Patient Access because the request goes directly to the GP workflow.
| Prescription route | What the practice says |
|---|---|
| NHS App | Recommended online route for selecting repeat medication. |
| Patient Access | Can also be used for online repeat requests. |
| Prescription box | Put the completed repeat slip in the prescriptions box in the waiting room. |
| cmicb-wi.prescriptionsmlmp@nhs.net | |
| Telephone order | Not accepted for routine repeat-prescription requests. |
| Processing time | Allow three working days, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays. |
Medication question rather than a repeat order?
Use the Blinx Administration route, or call 0151 625 9171 and select option 1 between 10:00am and 12:30pm. The prescription team is also available at the front desk.
The MedicalPracticeUK medication guide explains repeat medicines, medication reviews, nominated pharmacies and urgent medicine planning in more detail.
Test results: wait five working days first
Marine Lake says test samples are sent to the laboratory and the results return electronically to the practice. A doctor then reviews the result and decides whether any action is needed.
The practice specifically asks patients to wait five working days before chasing routine results.
Results may be available through NHS App, Patient Access or another linked online provider.
After five working days, phone the practice or send an administration request through Blinx.
Register with Marine Lake Medical Practice
The practice provides both an NHS online-registration route and paper registration forms from reception. It also publishes a postcode-based practice-boundary search.
Use the catchment postcode search on the official registration page before completing the application.
Use the NHS Register with a GP surgery service or ask reception for the registration form and health questionnaire.
Registration is with the practice rather than one individual doctor, but patients can express a preference and the practice will try to accommodate it where possible.
The practice supports proxy access where appropriate, allowing an authorised family member, friend or carer to help with appointments, repeat medicines or record access.
Registering a new baby
The practice asks parents to register a new baby as soon as practical. It says that once informed of the birth it can arrange the mother’s six-week postnatal appointment and the baby’s first immunisation appointment.
Sick and fit notes: seven-day rule
| Time off work | What to do |
|---|---|
| 7 days or less | The practice says you normally self-certify and do not need a GP fit note. |
| Employer insists on a GP note within 7 days | Marine Lake currently lists a £10 charge for this private note because it is outside normal NHS certification. |
| More than 7 days | Request a Fitness to Work certificate through Blinx. |
| Extension of an existing note | Use the practice’s additional fit-note request form; a further appointment may not always be necessary. |
Clinics and services patients may need
Marine Lake’s published services show that many routine needs are handled by nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacies or dedicated review clinics rather than a standard GP consultation.
Long-term condition reviews
The practice runs regular reviews for conditions including diabetes, asthma, COPD, heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, thyroid disorders, epilepsy, dementia and learning disabilities.
Practice nurse / HCA care
Published routes include blood tests requested by a clinician, blood-pressure monitoring, wound care, cervical screening and several routine nursing tasks.
Family planning
Contraception and family-planning support is available through GP and practice-nurse care according to the practice’s current service guide.
Community pharmacy
The practice directs several minor conditions—including some coughs, colds, hay fever, minor skin problems and medicine questions—to community pharmacies where appropriate.
Travel vaccination
Marine Lake provides cholera, hepatitis A, polio and typhoid vaccinations under the NHS contract when clinically appropriate. Travel forms should be submitted well in advance.
Healthier West Wirral PCN
Marine Lake is part of Healthier West Wirral Primary Care Network, which supports extended access and wider neighbourhood healthcare services.
Wheelchair access, hearing support and extra help
Physical access
- The practice says the building is accessible to wheelchair users.
- A suitable accessible toilet is available.
- Patients who need extra help can tell reception in advance or when checking in.
Hearing support
- A hearing loop is available at reception.
- Names are shown on waiting-area screens.
- A voice message also announces when the doctor or nurse is ready.
- Patients with hearing difficulty can ask reception to tell them when they are called.
For comparison with another coastal NHS surgery’s access and digital-service model, see the separate Waterside Medical Practice patient guide. Its phone, appointment and registration rules do not apply to Marine Lake.
Complaints and Patient Participation Group
Formal complaint
Marine Lake accepts complaints through its online form or in writing to the Complaints Officer. The practice asks patients to provide specific information about what happened.
- Acknowledgement target: within 3 working days.
- Written response target: within 12 weeks.
- Normal complaint time limit: within 12 months of the incident, or within 12 months of becoming aware of the problem.
Patient Participation Group
The practice has a Patient Participation Group open to registered patients who want to contribute to practice development and patient feedback. Individual medical problems should still be directed to the practice rather than the PPG.
