Amherst Medical Practice: GP appointments, opening hours, prescriptions and patient help

Amherst Medical Practice provides NHS GP care from its main Sevenoaks Practice and its branch surgery in Brasted. GP appointments are telephone-triaged first, while non-urgent medical and administrative requests can also be submitted online.

3. Consultation route Telephone first for GP care, then face-to-face if needed or preferred; other clinicians may use phone, video, text or in-person care.

Fast answer: Amherst Medical Practice’s Sevenoaks surgery is open 8:00am–6:30pm Monday to Friday. Brasted is open 8:30am–12:30pm and 2:00pm–6:30pm Monday to Friday. Urgent same-day appointments should be requested by phone or in person. Routine online requests can be submitted on weekdays and the practice aims to respond within two working days.

Current autumn/winter 2026 vaccination notice

Amherst Medical Practice says its 2026 COVID-19 and flu vaccination clinics will begin from 1 October 2026. Eligible patients will be invited by the practice with instructions to book.

If you are eligible: the practice currently asks patients to wait for its email or SMS invitation rather than contacting reception to book before an invitation arrives. Where appropriate, COVID-19 and flu vaccines may be given at the same appointment.
One-off MenB programme: Amherst’s July 2026 notice says the new one-off meningitis B programme is being delivered through participating community pharmacies, not GP practices.

Enhanced-access appointments

Amherst publishes a schedule of pre-bookable early-morning and evening appointments with GPs, nursing staff, minor-illness clinicians and the clinical pharmacist. Availability varies by day and clinician.

Registered Amherst patients can also access pre-booked Saturday face-to-face GP appointments from 9:00am to 5:00pm at designated extended-access sites including The Vine Medical Practice in Maidstone and Rusthall Medical Centre near Tunbridge Wells. These can be arranged through reception or NHS 111.

Appointments: all GP requests are telephone-triaged first

Amherst’s appointment system distinguishes urgent same-day problems from routine/non-acute requests. The online form is not an urgent-care channel.

Urgent appointment today

1
Consider whether Pharmacy First is suitable.
Some common conditions can be assessed and treated by a community pharmacist without waiting for a GP.
2
Call the appropriate Amherst surgery.
Use 01732 459255 for Sevenoaks or 01959 563811 for Brasted. The urgent appointment route is available Monday to Friday during practice hours.
3
Tell the care navigator what the problem is.
Reception uses that information to identify the most suitable doctor, nurse or other health professional.
4
The GP consultation starts by telephone.
The current practice policy says all GP appointments are telephone-triaged first. The GP can then arrange a face-to-face appointment if needed or preferred.

Routine appointment

For a non-urgent problem, you can submit the practice’s online form, telephone, or speak to reception. The online form is available 8:00am–6:30pm Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays, and the practice aims to respond within two working days.

The online medical form can close early. The practice says clinical submissions may be switched off for the remainder of a day if it reaches its safe working capacity. If that happens, use the telephone or reception route rather than repeatedly refreshing the form.
Do not use the online form for sudden or urgent illness. Amherst specifically excludes urgent/acute problems from this route. Contact the practice directly during opening hours, NHS 111 when closed, or 999 for a life-threatening emergency.

How consultations can be delivered

GP requests are triaged by telephone first. Other members of the practice team may provide care face to face, by telephone, video call, text or email depending on the issue.

Tell Amherst what would make the appointment work for you

Preferred clinician

Tell reception if there is a particular doctor, nurse or health professional you would prefer to respond.

Face-to-face preference

If you prefer face-to-face care, say so. The GP can arrange an in-person consultation after telephone triage when needed or preferred.

Interpreter or access need

Tell the practice when booking if you need an interpreter or another communication or access adjustment.

Chaperone

You can request a chaperone for an examination or consultation where appropriate.

Amherst phone menu: call at the right time

The practice publishes specific call windows for several administrative tasks. Using them can avoid being transferred or asked to call back.

Phone option Task Published time
1 Book a blood test After 10:00am
2 Prescription queries 10:00am–12:30pm
3 Medical secretary: referral queries or results 2:30pm–4:00pm
4 Registration, insurance and general admin 10:00am–12:30pm and 2:00pm–5:00pm
5 Request a home visit Call as soon after 8:00am as possible
6 Clinician appointment route During normal telephone access

Home visits: call soon after 8am

If you are housebound and need an appointment, Amherst says it will provide a home visit where appropriate. The practice asks patients to phone as soon after 8:00am as possible.

Telephone assessment first

The practice says it will call you before the visit to understand what you need.

Typical visit period

Amherst says home visits are typically carried out between 12:30pm and 2:30pm.

A home visit is not a replacement for emergency care. Call 999 if someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Repeat prescriptions: at least three working days

Amherst publishes three main ways to request a normal repeat prescription: the NHS App or other supported online service, the NHS account, or a written repeat-prescription request.

Prescription route What to know
NHS App Open Services and choose “Request repeat prescriptions”, then select the medicine and nominated pharmacy.
NHS account / supported online service Useful for repeat medicines already authorised on your record.
Written repeat request Complete the repeat request form and provide it to the surgery.
Verbal request The practice says verbal repeat-medicine requests are not accepted for patient-safety reasons.
Practice processing Allow at least three working days.
Pharmacy / Brasted dispensary preparation The practice warns that a further 2–3 working days may be needed to obtain stock and prepare the medicines.
“Reauthorise” on your repeat slip? The practice says you need to arrange a medication review with a pharmacist or GP after collecting your final authorised repeat. Do not wait until you have completely run out.

Electronic repeat dispensing

Suitable patients may be able to use electronic repeat dispensing, where a clinician authorises a series of prescriptions in advance and the nominated pharmacy supplies them at agreed intervals. A review may be required before a new batch is authorised.

For broader help with medication reviews and missing repeat items, see the MedicalPracticeUK medication guide.

Brasted dispensary: allow extra time after GP processing

The Brasted branch includes a dispensary. For patients using it, the practice warns that the dispensary may need a further two to three working days after the practice has processed a repeat request to order stock and prepare the medicine.

Plan backwards from the day you will run out: Amherst requires at least three working days to process a normal repeat request, and pharmacy/Brasted dispensing preparation may add another two to three working days. Weekends and Bank Holidays can therefore matter.
The dispensary service is different from asking a general prescription question. For prescription queries by phone, the current practice menu directs patients to option 2 between 10:00am and 12:30pm.

Blood tests and results: Sevenoaks Hospital booking plus a five-day result route

Booking a blood test

The current practice guidance says all Sevenoaks Hospital phlebotomy appointments must be booked in advance. Amherst reception can arrange the appointment. The phone menu asks patients booking a blood test to call after 10:00am and select option 1.

Getting the result online

Amherst says results become visible online after a GP has reviewed and filed them. The NHS App or other supported patient-access service is therefore the easiest route for many patients.

1
Wait for clinical review.
The raw laboratory result is not shown through the practice’s online route until it has been reviewed and filed.
2
Check the NHS App / online record.
If the clinician needs you to take further action, the practice says a clinician or staff member will contact you.
3
If you cannot use the online route, wait five working days.
Blood-test results can then be requested by phone from the doctor’s secretary.
4
Call 2:30pm–4:00pm.
The medical-secretary/result line is published for this weekday window.
If you can see the reviewed result online and the GP has not requested follow-up, the practice says no specific further action has been requested. If you still want to discuss it, ask reception to arrange a routine telephone appointment.

Register with Amherst Medical Practice

Amherst provides separate online-registration links for Sevenoaks and Brasted. You need to live within the practice catchment, and submitting a form does not itself confirm acceptance.

1
Choose Sevenoaks or Brasted.
Start from the official Amherst new-patient page so the form is routed to the correct practice location.
2
Complete the online registration form.
A secure route is also available to request registration forms if online completion is difficult.
3
Allow up to five working days.
The practice says registrations are not actioned immediately because it receives a high number of new-patient requests.
4
Wait for acceptance before assuming the transfer is complete.
Completing the online form does not automatically mean the practice has accepted the registration.
The practice says it does not routinely accept transfers from another local practice unless there is an adequate reason for changing practice. If this applies to you, contact the registration team rather than assuming the online form guarantees acceptance.

Named GP continuity

Amherst says new patients are registered with a named GP and will normally see or speak to that GP unless the doctor is away from the practice.

Clinics and services at Amherst

Amherst’s current clinical team includes GPs, a prescribing nurse practitioner, practice nurses, healthcare assistants and other health professionals. Several routine needs can therefore be handled without a standard GP appointment.

Diabetes

The practice publishes nurse-led diabetes clinics for long-term-condition monitoring and review.

Asthma & COPD

Nurse-led respiratory clinics support patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Wound care

Practice nurses provide wound-care clinics where appropriate.

Vaccination

The nursing team provides adult and childhood NHS vaccination services, with the 2026 flu/COVID campaign beginning from 1 October for eligible invited patients.

Healthcare-assistant services

Published HCA services include NHS Health Checks, blood-pressure checks, 24-hour blood-pressure monitoring, ECGs and ear irrigation.

Cervical screening

Trained practice nurses provide cervical screening for eligible patients when due.

Disabled access, hearing loop and visual support

Amherst says both Sevenoaks and Brasted are designed to accommodate disabled patients, with consulting and treatment rooms on the ground floor.

Physical access

  • Ground-floor consulting and treatment rooms.
  • Disabled toilet facilities.
  • Disabled parking bays.
  • Baby-changing facilities.

Hearing and visual support

  • Hearing loop at reception.
  • Building design intended to assist people with visual impairment.
  • Large-print practice leaflet available on request.
  • Website designed for keyboard and common screen-reader use.
If you need an interpreter, chaperone or another communication/access adjustment for an appointment, tell reception when you make the request rather than waiting until the consultation begins.

Complaints: local resolution, three-day response and a 40-day aim

A complaint can be made verbally or in writing. A complaints form is available from reception, and the practice also accepts complaints through its website.

Complaint step Amherst’s published process
First contact Speak to a member of staff or the Practice Manager, or submit a written/web complaint.
Normal time limit Within 12 months of the event or 12 months from when you became aware of the issue.
Initial response The practice says the complaints manager will respond within three business days.
Resolution aim The current complaints page says Amherst aims to resolve the complaint within 40 days while providing updates.
Complaint for another adult The patient must normally provide consent because of confidentiality.

CQC: Good overall after the 2025 assessment

The Care Quality Commission currently rates Amherst Medical Practice Good overall. Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led are all displayed as Good.

CQC record Current published detail What it means
Overall rating Good All five key questions are displayed as Good.
Latest assessment period 25 April–13 May 2025 CQC says it visited both the Sevenoaks main practice and Brasted branch.
Latest report published 14 July 2025 This is the current assessment report, rather than the older 2015 inspection.
Regulatory finding CQC found a breach relating to safe care and treatment CQC asked the provider for an action plan in response, while the Safe domain and overall service remained rated Good.
Assessment address narrative 21 St Botolphs Road, Sevenoaks, TN13 3AQ This matches the current practice and NHS patient-facing address.
CQC location header TN13 2RP appears on parts of the CQC location record Use TN13 3AQ for a current patient journey; the CQC assessment narrative itself also uses TN13 3AQ.
Good does not mean CQC found no issues. The 2025 assessment kept all domains at Good, but CQC also recorded a safe-care-and-treatment regulatory breach and requested an action plan. That nuance is more accurate than describing the latest report simply as “Good” without context.

How do I request a routine Amherst appointment online?
Use the practice’s non-urgent online form Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 6:30pm. Amherst aims to respond within two working days. The form is for routine medical and administrative requests only and may be switched off early if the practice reaches safe working capacity. Urgent problems should be handled by phone or reception instead.
How long do Amherst repeat prescriptions take?
The practice requires at least three working days to process a normal repeat-medicine request. Amherst also warns that the nominated pharmacy or Brasted dispensary may need a further two to three working days to obtain stock and prepare the medicine. Verbal routine repeat-medicine requests are not accepted.
How do I get blood-test results from Amherst Medical Practice?
Results can be viewed online after a GP has reviewed and filed them. If online access is not appropriate, the practice says blood-test results can be obtained from the doctor’s secretary five working days after the test. Call Monday to Friday between 2:30pm and 4:00pm. Sevenoaks Hospital blood-test appointments must be booked in advance through reception.

If you are housebound and need an appointment at home, call the surgery as soon after 8:00am as possible. The practice says it will phone first to understand what you need. Home visits are typically carried out between 12:30pm and 2:30pm.
How do I register with Amherst Medical Practice?

Amherst says registration requests can take up to five working days to process and submitting the form does not automatically mean the registration has been accepted.
Does the Brasted branch have a dispensary?
Yes. CQC’s latest assessment identifies Brasted as Amherst Medical Practice’s branch surgery and confirms that it has a dispensary. Amherst advises that after the practice processes a repeat prescription, the Brasted dispensary may need a further two to three working days to obtain stock and prepare the medicine.
What is Amherst Medical Practice’s current CQC rating?
CQC currently rates Amherst Medical Practice Good overall, with Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led all displayed as Good. The latest assessment took place from 25 April to 13 May 2025 and the report was published on 14 July 2025. CQC also found a breach of the safe-care-and-treatment regulations and asked the provider for an action plan, so the latest report contains both a Good rating and a specific regulatory issue requiring action.
